BFAIBPMSH Chapter 93

Before the microphone is handed to his face, Bai Gaoxing continues looking around, trying to spot couples.

"Excuse me, excuse me. Do you have time to participate in an interview?" the girl holding the microphone asks again.

Her expression is full of enthusiasm, and her bright eyes make it hard for anyone to refuse.

She adds quickly, "We’re doing street interviews!"

Street interviews.

These are spontaneous interactions where reporters randomly stop passersby in busy areas, asking fun questions to create engaging and often comedic content.

For their weekly task, the new media club of Jiangcheng University has chosen a mall as the venue for the day’s street interviews, targeting couples as their subjects.

Since the area is near a university district with lots of young people, they have already managed to interview many couples in the plaza outside. However, on their plan to interview ten male-male, male-female, and female-female couples each, they are still one pair short for the male-male category.

After diligently searching, they finally spot one such couple on the second floor of the mall!

It’s the two people right in front of them now.

Looking through the camera screen at their silhouettes, the girl feels that their appearance must be incredibly stunning—even though they are wearing hats and masks, her sharp eyes haven’t missed the signs!

Fortunately, she intercepts them just before they step into the elevator. If she had missed this chance, she would have regretted it enough to lose sleep tonight.

She waits eagerly for a response. But to her surprise, after she finishes speaking, the shorter boy quickly hides behind the taller man, almost burying his face in the other’s back.

Her eyes widen in surprise, a flicker of excitement flashing through her expression.

So shy! So adorable! Definitely the "uke" type!

(Translator’s Notes: "Uke" (受け) is a term originating from Japanese yaoi (boys' love) or BL culture, referring to the "receiver" in a romantic or sexual relationship between two men. It typically contrasts with seme (攻め), the "giver" or dominant partner.)

The girl mentally locks in her imagined couple dynamic, clears her throat, and hands the microphone to the taller man. "Can I ask you a few questions?"

Unexpectedly, the man glances at the phone she’s holding and asks, "Is this a live broadcast?"

"Ah? No, it’s just a recording," the girl answers, momentarily caught off guard by the odd question. Only after a moment does she realize how strange it sounds.

But his voice... it’s deep, pleasant to the ear—and oddly familiar.

Blushing slightly, she is about to respond when he asks an even stranger question:

"Why do you think we’re a couple?"

“What? Why? Well, it’s obvious just by the atmosphere between you two! Not to mention, you’re wearing matching outfits!”

Before she realizes it, she has said her inner thoughts out loud and quickly covers her mouth.

…Matching outfits?

Li Pu looks down at his and Dabai’s clothes. Sure enough, they are not just similar—they’re almost identical in color. He recalls that the sales lady had deliberately chosen coordinating outfits for Dabai earlier.

His mind flashes back to the man from before, who also assumed they were a couple.

Li Pu pauses for a moment, then looks at the girl. "Sorry, we’re in a hurry and can’t take part in the interview," he says politely. After a brief hesitation, he adds, "And we’re not a couple."

Li Pu has plenty of experience with being interviewed. As long as it isn’t a live broadcast, he doesn’t worry too much about being recognized immediately. And since this is just a street interview, as long as he doesn’t answer their questions, he won’t be included in the final edit.

“Eh? Then what’s your relationship?” the girl blurts out.

“Just… an ordinary relationship!” Bai Gaoxing peeks out just enough to reply, then immediately retreats behind Li Pu again.

Li Pu presses his lips together under his mask, hiding his expression.

The girl waves her hand apologetically. “Sorry, sorry, I asked without thinking—you don’t have to answer!”

She watches the two walk away and overhears the man’s low voice asking the boy, “An ordinary relationship?”

The teenager replies, “Oh, I just said something random...”

Ah, ah, ah! Isn’t that low-key showing off their affection?!

The girl grins mischievously and glances down at her phone, reviewing the little footage she has managed to record. Getting turned down for interviews is a common occurrence—like couIt’s a pity they can’t interview this pair. She’ll have to find another couple to talk to. Still, with their looks, she really wants to include them as a special Easter egg.

But... Why does the taller one seem so familiar?

Meanwhile, Bai Gaoxing finally breathes a sigh of relief after escaping the crowd’s attention. He pats his chest dramatically. “That was nerve-wracking... What if they’re live-streaming and your fans recognize you?”

Li Pu thinks for a moment. “I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it.”

His answer catches Bai Gaoxing off guard. Li Pu, after all, is used to being in the spotlight. In the past, whenever he was recognized, it usually just meant signing a few autographs or taking photos. Most of his fans are polite and easygoing.

Bai Gaoxing pauses, glances around, and lowers his voice. “I think we should head back. We’ve bought almost everything anyway.” He leans closer. “What if she realizes who you are and comes back later…”

“But—”

“No buts! Run!” Bai Gaoxing grabs the shopping cart and turns, hurrying toward the exit. He doesn’t know if it’s his imagination, but ever since turning back into a human, his senses have been sharper—especially when it comes to detecting “danger.”

After the earlier incident, he can’t shake the feeling that many people have been staring at them.

Once they leave the mall and get into the car, Bai Gaoxing finally feels a sense of relief. That is, until Li Pu casually says, “Weren’t you planning to buy food?”

“…” Bai Gaoxing’s expression twists into one of despair. QAQ

I completely forgot…

Why didn’t you remind me earlier?!

Bai Gaoxing reluctantly says, “Next time, then. It’s not urgent.”

Seeing the boy’s scrunched-up face, Li Pu can’t help but smile slightly. He comforts him, “I’ll order what you’ve been craving for lunch.”

KFC!

Bai Gaoxing’s earlier gloom vanishes, replaced by shining eyes. “Okay! I want a big portion!”

As he inwardly marvels at how kind Li Pu is, he suddenly hears the man ask, “...Was that previous food delivery yours?”

Food delivery? What food delivery? ai Gaoxing stares at him in complete confusion.

Li Pu, having noticed that Dabai has probably already forgotten about that memory, patiently helps him recall: “Before going to the filming, one day I left the house without my phone. When I got back, I saw a fried chicken delivery hanging on the door...”

“Ah...!” Bai Gaoxing’s pupils dilate.

He remembered!

That day, unable to resist temptation, he sneaked over to Li Pu’s phone, but forgot that he had to open the door to get the takeaway. Then—

Bai Gaoxing puts on an awkward but polite smile. “You remembered that...”

As for the “mysterious” delivery, Li Pu had, of course, not eaten it, nor had he let Dabai—who was still a parrot at the time—eat it.

Bai Gaoxing had been upset about it for a long time…

Bai Gaoxing asks cautiously, “If I say I ordered it by accident, will you believe me?”

Li Pu doesn’t respond. Instead, he unlocks his phone and hands it to Bai Gaoxing. “You order.”

That means he doesn’t believe him… Bai Gaoxing, feeling a mix of grief and frustration, channels his emotions into his hunger. He takes the phone and begins ordering a luxurious meal.

Not long later, they arrive downstairs in the community. Neither of them rushes to get out of the car. Li Pu first observes the area, goes upstairs to ensure no one is waiting, and then comes back down to signal for help.

Bai Gaoxing sighs in relief. It’s not easy to get back here.

Lunch is a large portion of KFC.

When the delivery guy knocks on the door, Bai Gaoxing rushes over, eager to open it, but just as his fingers touch the door handle, Li Pu pulls him back in time.

“Don’t open the door to anyone before you tell me first.”

By “anyone,” of course, he means Li Pu’s agent and assistant. If it had been someone from the entertainment agency instead of the delivery guy, they wouldn’t have had a peaceful day.

Facing Li Pu’s serious and stern expression, Bai Gaoxing obediently nods. “Got it.”

Whoever cooks, makes the rules!

Li Pu doesn’t care much for the delivery. Bai Gaoxing, on the other hand, claims the entire large bucket for himself. He initially uses chopsticks, but eventually just digs in with his hands, eating chicken wings at a speed that rivals someone cracking sunflower seeds.

Watching the boy eat with such happiness, Li Pu can’t help but wonder if the food he prepared for Bai Gaoxing earlier, when he was still a parrot, was simply not up to his standards.

Bai Gaoxing polishes off the entire meal.

Boys of this age usually have big appetites, but this deluxe set is meant for 3 to 4 people, and it’s hard for one person to finish it all.

Bai Gaoxing can clearly feel that he’s eating more than usual... As he nibbles on the last piece of chicken nugget, he feels a little confused, but quickly pushes the thought away, convincing himself that “maybe it’s just because it’s been so long since he ate this and he’s extra hungry.”

After dinner, Li Pu begins tidying up the room.

Yesterday, the room was arranged casually, but after buying so many things today, he decides to give it a thorough clean.

Feeling too full, Bai Gaoxing rests his hand on his stomach and sits on the couch. As he turns around, he sees Li Pu walking out of the bedroom with a blanket in his arms.

“What are you doing?” Bai Gaoxing asks curiously.

“I’m giving you an extra blanket. It’ll be cold tonight,” Li Pu replies.

"Is it really necessary to go through all this trouble? We can just sleep in the same bed," Bai Gaoxing says lazily, touching his belly. "We’ve shared a room before, anyway."

Li Pu pauses.

He turns his head slightly and looks at the boy, who seems completely indifferent to the situation. "It’s different."

"What’s different? It’s warmer if we squeeze together," Bai Gaoxing responds with a rebellious glint in his eyes. "I slept with you yesterday too. It’s no different from before!"

As he speaks, he snatches the quilt from Li Pu’s hands, runs to the bedroom, and tosses it onto the bed. "See? It’s still spacious!"

Bai Gaoxing likes the bed in the master bedroom — it’s large, soft, comfortable, and very elastic. The bed in the guest room can’t compare!

Li Pu sighs. "No."

Hearing his tone falter a little, Bai Gaoxing presses on, taking a few steps toward the bedside and sitting down. "I’m used to this bed, aren’t you used to me sleeping with you? Besides, I’m a parrot. If I suddenly change environments, I’ll... well... I’ll be stressed."

Looking at his face, Li Pu can tell the boy has put a lot of thought into this excuse.

Stress... Okay, stress. Li Pu has to admit, this reasoning works. He remembers when Dabai first came home — his chest feathers were a mess, and his expression was pitiful.

Li Pu can’t bear to see the boy like that again.

So, he relents.

After securing the right to use the big bed, Bai Gaoxing cheers in victory and energetically begins making the bed, carefully placing the things they bought at the mall in their rightful spots.

By the time the afternoon is over, the single space becomes a shared one, and all the newly bought clothes are washed and hung up.

Li Pu looks at the smaller slippers by the door, then at the brand-new toothbrush and towel in the bathroom. A subtle ripple stirs in his heart.

He's used to being alone, but now, with traces of someone else in his life, he finds himself... not quite adjusted to it.

During dinner, Li Pu mentions that his assistant will be arriving soon, then says, "When he comes, you should hide in the room."

Bai Gaoxing nods enthusiastically. "Got it. I’ll make sure to be completely quiet!"

Dong Dong Dong.

Just as they are speaking, a knock comes at the door. Bai Gaoxing looks at Li Pu, reluctantly sets down his chopsticks, and tiptoes to the bedroom, leaving the door slightly cracked.

Once the boy has hidden, Li Pu slowly gets up and walks over to open the door.

"Brother Li!"

As soon as the door opens, the assistant outside immediately begins scanning the room, his eyes darting from one side to the other.

Still not satisfied, he grabs Li Pu’s hand and rolls up the sleeve to check his wrist.

When he sees everything is fine, he finally breathes a sigh of relief.

"Da Shu." Li Pu slightly lowers his eyes, his gaze falling on the hand that is still being held.

"Haha... Brother Li, I'm just too scared." Mei Youshu quickly lets go of Li Pu's hand and hands over the script he's holding. "Here, what you wanted."

When Li Pu takes it, Mei Youshu frowns again with concern. "Why didn’t you reply to my text messages or answer the phone that day?"

Li Pu flips through the script casually and says, "Something happened."

Mei Youshu can't quite believe that explanation. After all, while Li Pu doesn’t often follow the news or go online, he usually replies to messages promptly. This kind of situation has never happened before.

Still, Mei Youshu nods. "I’m just glad you're okay."

He makes a move to enter, but as soon as he steps forward, he finds Li Pu has raised his arm, blocking the door frame.

"..."

Under the man's steady, dark gaze, Mei Youshu freezes, feeling a little flustered. "What—what’s wrong?"

Li Pu closes the script and says, "I’m going to bed early tonight, so I can't entertain you."

Go to bed early? But it isn’t even seven o'clock yet...

Mei Youshu can’t help but glance into the room, noticing the steaming food on the table.

"Brother Li, are you still eating?" he asks.

Li Pu looks back and replies, "I just finished eating."

Mei Youshu finds that hard to believe. He knows that Li Pu usually cooks just enough for himself, so there would be no waste or leftovers. Yet the food on the table clearly hasn't been touched.

"...I’m sorry, Brother Li, but I can’t rest easy with you doing this." Mei Youshu's eyes suddenly harden, and he takes a step forward—crawling under Li Pu's arm.

After walking into the living room, Mei Youshu quickly scans the space. Everything appears the same as before—no changes.

The house is still messy, with electrical appliances and furniture scattered around. There are no signs of the chaotic situation he had feared...

Mei Youshu turns to face Li Pu and immediately apologizes when he sees his expression. "I’m sorry, Brother Li! I-I just..."

"It’s fine." Li Pu looks at his assistant and says indifferently, "Now that we’re sure, is there anything else?"

"No!" Mei Youshu shakes his head quickly.

Li Pu escorts Mei Youshu to the door, but then pauses as he is about to turn around.

"Wait."

"Hmm? Is there something else?" Mei Youshu asks.

Li Pu thinks for a moment. "Help me find some comics and novels."

"Ah?" Mei Youshu blinks in surprise. It’s the first time Li Pu has asked for something like this. He’s stunned for a long moment. "What kind of comics and novels?"

Li Pu: "I sent you a text message."

Mei Youshu blinks, lowers his head, and pulls out his phone to check. He reads aloud, "‘My Pet is a Fairy,’ ‘What Should I Do if My Cat Becomes Human,’ ‘Dog Lover,’ ‘Please Raise Me’..."

"!?!"

Mei Youshu's eyes widen. "Brother Li, you...!?" He takes a deep breath. "Okay, I’ll send it to you as soon as I find it."

Li Pu nods.

"Bang." The door closes.

Mei Youshu stands there holding his phone, pressing the elevator button absentmindedly. He goes downstairs in a daze, remains blank as he gets into the car, and then, trembling, dials Lei Li's number.

"Woo... Sister Li, come back soon..."

...

Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Bai Gaoxing, who has been listening near the door, finally straightens up.

Huh, He’s finally gone.

I had thought we might be caught.

Bai Gaoxing lets out a sigh of relief and walks out after hearing Li Pu’s voice. He goes back to finish the dinner that had been left unfinished.

But later that night—

He might have really been affected by this body that has changed from a parrot to a human.

Bai Gaoxing stares at the ceiling, the sound of Li Pu’s even breathing beside him.

It’s about 3:30 in the morning. When he first realizes that a parrot wouldn’t enjoy spicy food, he doesn’t think much of it. He simply assumes it’s because he used to be human. But now, he really feels the two bodies influencing each other, sharing some characteristics.

Like right now... he’s so hungry.

Bai Gaoxing endures and endures, but the hunger keeps him awake. Eventually, he decides not to wake Li Pu. He carefully slips out of bed, opens the quilt, and sneaks to the kitchen.

Li Pu’s refrigerator is too clean.

Bai Gaoxing stares at the few scattered lettuce leaves in it, then curses himself for throwing away the set meal he had at lunch. He turns to the cabinet, searching desperately—there has to be instant noodles, right?

No.

There’s nothing.

Bai Gaoxing searches the entire cupboard, not finding anything edible. At this moment, he deeply regrets leaving the mall so early this morning.

After a long silence, his gaze lands on the bird food.

This... I could probably still eat it, right?

Bai Gaoxing opens the bag and pulls out a few biscuit-shaped pieces. He sniffs them; they don’t smell great. Since his taste as a parrot is similar to that of a human, he wonders if, now as a human, he might actually find bird food more appetizing...

He swallows his saliva and throws one into his mouth. "Crunch."

It’s... not bad?

Bai Gaoxing chews thoughtfully, realizing it tastes like a mixture of fruit and millet, which is tolerable. His eyes light up, and he grabs two more. "Crunch, crunch."

The more he chews, the more flavorful it becomes.

Bai Gaoxing starts eating it like a biscuit, completely engrossed in the process, forgetting that the man who is sleeping next to him doesn’t have the best sleep quality.

"Pop." The headlights suddenly turn on, lighting up the entire living room.

Bai Gaoxing freezes, his breathing almost inaudible. After a moment, he hears a voice from behind, its tone difficult to interpret:

"...What are you doing?"
